Ewwwwwww

In one of my pregnancy books, The Mayo Clinic Guide To A Healthy Pregnancy, it talks about weight gain. Here is what it has to say for weeks 37-40:

Your baby is gaining weight more slowly this month. As a result, you may notice that your own weight gain has slowed or even stopped. It is even quite common to lose a pound or so at the very end of the pregnancy (PLEASE let this happen to me!). By the time you reach term on your due date, you'll probably have gained a total roughly of 25 to 35 pounds (shoot me please). Here's a breakdown of how that weight may be distributed:

YOUR BABY 6.5 to 9 pds
PLACENTA 1.5 pds
AMNIOTIC FLUID 2 pds
BREAST ENLARGEMENT 1 to 3 pds
UTERUS ENLARGEMENT 2 pds
FAT STORES & MUSCLE DEVELOPMENT 6 to 8 pds
INCREASED BLOOD VOLUME 3 to 4 pds
INCREASE FLUID VOLUME 2 to 3 pds

TOTAL: 24 to 32.5 pounds

Ew. Ew. Ew.
